As a non-business person, I find these posts rather scary. Why are all the 'Lean' people so emotive? It's just a business theory - can't pros and cons be discussed without having to gush over the person, then whap them, then try to get more money out of them... then 'struggle them' as Chinese did dissenters in the 60s. It really reminds me of the attitudes of weird cults like Scientology and self-invented DIY pseudo-Christianity 'me-churches', done as only America can. brrrrh!

[…] Nick Pelling coined the term “gamification” in 2002, meaning “applying game-like accelerated user interface design to make electronic transactions both enjoyable and fast.” The idea is that the more an interface feels like a fun game, the more likely users are to embrace it. Foursquare’s anointing of “mayors” for people who check into particular locations the most is a form of gamification, as is the “upvoting” of user-submitted content on sites like Reddit.
That was a bit enigmatic - Think tanks and lobby groups are arguably the two most destructive types of organisation on the planet, because they have no mechanism for stablilizing their own wants against a realistic perspective on limits of demand.

Think-tanks have been behind the massive effort to deny global warming, and lacking even a basic standard of ethics - nothing is important but getting their own desires met - they are undermining our political, intellectual and physical integrity. Same for 'government by lobby' - it subverts the whole ethos of democracy and threatens us with worse than a return to the days of aristocratic rule: we'll have the full nightmare of Plato's fantasy world made real.

Scholarship in the true sense can't exist in a think-tank atmosphere without distortion and manipulation.
